Mountain Stage Recap..

captain_philThe show started off with the rehearsal of the theme, plus the audience doing a test applause so that Francis the Engineer could get the levels set right for the recording of the show, and also with the announcement that Tony Rice had to cancel do getting bitten by one of his dogs. Larry Keel and his band carried on without Mr. Rice, but with a couple of little jokes here and there.
I believe Rose Cousins was up next and all I can say is Wow! What a voice. She performed a few solo songs, then the Mandolin Player for Larry Keel's band joined her for a song. Then it was Clarksburg WV's own The Davisson Brothers. These guys are going places, they are very high energy performers to say the least, I'll be looking to see these guys again for sure. In all my years of going to Mountain Stage I don't think I can remember any other non headlining artists getting a standing ovation.
Next up was Catherine Russell. Great Jazz/Blues singer, such a big voice from a tiny little woman. Her Dad was a band leader for Louis Armstrong who won $3000 in the Panamanian Lottery in 1919 and immigrated to the US and became a jazz musician in New Orleans. Her Mother was a Juliard graduate, so it was pretty much natural for her to be some kind of performer.
Little Big Town was the closing act, I'm still not crazy about their song "I'm with the band", but I liked their other songs. Great vocal harmonies.
The traditional end of show jam was a little lacking, but I think that was because the picked "Bye Bye Love", and there were really too many singers on the stage for them each to sing a verse so it ended up being a group sing along with various solos on instruments.

Time to run around like a chicken with it's head cut off for a while while getting ready for the road trip.
