Thursday night Jason Isbell did a show at a bar in Huntington. When I saw the announcement I did a double take, despite it being a weeknight show in downtown Huntington, Susan and I went.
The opening act was a solo acoustic performer named Cory Branan. Despite having technical difficulties due to using a new guitar and amp, he had fun which was evident in his performance. There were some people up towards the front that were fans of his already and knew the words to a lot of his songs. I would gladly go see him again. As his set ended he said he was going to go find him a spot to watch Jason Isbell, and that Isbell would "Slap ya'll silly".
After getting tuning up, Isbell came out and indeed slapped us silly. He played a good mix of his material, including some of his songs from his days in the Drive By Truckers.
