Cooking with the captain
Feb. 7th, 2004 07:24 amBud Shootout and NHL All Star events this weekend, this calls for a celebration. Time to sacrifice a chicken on the Beer Butt Chicken rack. Nope, this isn't some freaky S&M device, but an awesome way to prepare chicken. You get a rack, halfway empty a beer can, and put the beer can in the rack, clean the chicken and season it, then you ram it in the rack, and shove an onion in the opening where it's neck used to be, and put the whole thing on a grill or a smoker until it's done.
Work yesterday wasn't too bad, I was on service calls most of the day. The other option was a construction project, so I can't complain.
In the CD player now is the Garcia/Grisman/Rice Pizza Tapes. It's unique in the fact that it's just the three of them pickin tunes, talking, goofing off and just having fun. It was never intended for commercial release but a pizza deliveryman swiped a copy from Jerry Garcia's while making a delivery and it ended up in circulation, so Grisman released it on his label.
It looks like a fairly busy summer for me as far as shows go. There's Jazzfest coming up in a couple of months(I'm hoping Heather goes, so it will be a "Cinci Buffett Tailgater All Stars Hit New Orleans" kinda event), The Bluegrass fair in Columbus, Steve Earle in Ashland, The Appalachian Upsrising in Proctorville, a performance by my guitar teacher and friend Robin Kessinger in Charleston, WV, and of course the Buffett show in Cinci, yes I WILL wear the grass skirt and coconut bra this year.
Time for a second pot of coffee and some chores around the ranch. Gotta get ready for the chicken sacrifice!
