For those of you looking forward to some horror stories from that Appalachian Uprising, I hate to disappoint, but I don't really have anything. .

I worked over Friday, until about 5:30 or so, due to a change in the modulation of some of the digital channels we had a rash of service calls all over creation. I came home, threw a 12 pack of Abita, some Peanut Butter, Cheese sticks and a gallon of water in the cooler and headed out. I stopped at Kroger's for some more provisions and hit Rt 52, Rt 7, and then Rt 775 for points unknown.

I arrived at the Farm around 7:30 or so, found a dry place to set up camp, put the tent up and walked through the mud to the stage area. I stopped off and got a BBQ pork sandwich and took a picture of this sign. Too bad Carlos Santana didn't read it before Jazzfest in NOLA.

While the Lonesome River Band was getting ready to take the stage, I helped a guy who's improvised canopy was about to collapse on his campsight. He'd set everything up Thursday before the storms moved in and had a dam built from scrap firewood and a ditch dug.

The Lonesome River Band was great, then they finished up an announced that Tony Rice would be joining them for the next set. I'd seen Tony Rice play with the Lonesome River Band before and was impressed. This time I was even more impressed. They performed a set of songs that Tony Rice performed and recorded throughout his career before he lost his voice.

It was back to Camp Phil for some slumber. I got out of bed around 8:30, had some breakfast and walked back to the stage area for a cup of coffee. I talked to a few of the vendors and headed back to the tent, to pick some guitar. I caught myself adlibbing bits and pieces of "Jessica" by the Allmans. The owner of the farm cruised by on a 4 wheeler to introduce himself and check on how the attendees were doing. After lunch it was off to the stage to catch a days worth of great music.

About the only disappointmet I had was with Sam Bush's show. Musically it was great, but I was expecting more of a straight bluegrass show. I can overlook an electric bass or a set of drums, but a distorted electric guitar and a mandolin with effects didn't really jive with me at a bluegrass festival.

Overall it was a great event. The closest thing I can compare it to is the Pre-Buffett tailgating at Cinci. Really laid back friendly crowd. Lots of great jamming in the camping area after hours too. I was going to jam with some guys from Ironton, but their campsite was about 1/4 mile from me and I didn't feel up to walking thru the mud to get to it. If I go next year, I'll be better prepared for the event for sure.

Also today I uploaded and put comments on pictures taken during various adventures this summer.
