I survived the Greater Huntington Homebrewers association Holiday Beer/Food Match last night, and as promised,
Apertif
Pretzels, veggies, and dip, with a Pilsner Urguell
Appetizer
Smoked Salmon Pate with a Griffin Spit IPA
Kraut Balls with an Abita Amber
Soups
Butternut Squash Soup with Bells Two Hearted IPA
Roasted Potato Soup with Weltenburger Klosterbier
Salad
Oriental Mandarin Orange and Spinach Sald with Kirin Ichiban.
Entrees
Smoked Turkey and Portabella Mushrooms with a Scottish 80
Stuffed Manicotti with Duvenbeck's Dortmunder Style Lager
Puerco y papa al guajilo(slow roasted pork with quajillo chilies) with Miller High Life. Yep you read that right. He brought up a silver champagne bucket with Miller High Life bottles in it. He did a presentation about how this was a celebration and that people have celebrated for ages with cooked pork, and what better beer for a celebration than The All American Union Made Champagne of Beers, Miller High Life. He then said "but for those of you with more pedistrian tastes I also have some Oak Bastard Ale"
For the Palate Cleanser there was a good Sparkling Rasberry Ginger Mead
Next up were some more Entrees
Seafood Paella and Goose Island Honker's Ale
Flemish Stew Served over Noodles with Brassere Dachouffe Belgian Golden Ale
After the Entrees was a Pre-Dessert of "High Octane Eggnog"
Then it was
Chocolate Cherry Cake with Fudge Icing and a Sweet Stout
Caramel Walnut Banana Torte with a mild ale
Truffle Cherries with Bourbon Barrel Porter
To round out the evening it Peach and Rasberry Lambics.
