About 5 years ago, when I was studying Shaolin-Do under sifu Bill Terry, whenever someone "made a connection" about something we were doing in class, he had a saying "did you here the gong and smell the incense?", today while cleaning my bedroom with the Tony Rice instructional dvd playing, I smelled the incense. Tony was talking about how he used to try to learn the songs the way Clarence White played them. He said that he never could play them exactly so he decided to try to come as close as he could, in doing so he developed his own playing style. It reminds me of a quote from Adrian Legg about screwing up other peoples material so badly that he came up with his own style "Incompetence is the mother of originality".

Enough meandering, now for what people really want to read. The thrilling way I spent my Labor Day.. Brace yourself it's exciting....

I started off the day with an omlette filled with Feta cheese and Melinda's Habanero Black Bean Dip, washed it down with some coffee and downed a handful of vitamins. then it was off to Walmart for some provisions for the week. I rearranged some stuff in my bedroom, found evidence of a mouse nest under an end table, but it had been abandoned for some time. Then the pool looked so tempting I decided to hit it. The pager went off and the other guy on call ("Dude") called me and I had to get ready in case I was needed in Greenup. Due to a common event called "FM" (short for Fuckin Magic), the cable came back on and I didn't have to go to Greenup. I chatted with [livejournal.com profile] sharkbait on ICQ for a while, then I cooked a steak that was truly "Flyin' J" worthy, and decided to go shoot some pool. No, despite my threats I didn't take a rifle to my swimming pool, but worked on my patented shot "the scratch" out in the garage. I came back in, practiced guitar for a bit, and now I'm just waiting until it's bedtime.

I just want to echo what [livejournal.com profile] puck_nut already mentioned about the "Buffett Crew". Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sharkbait, [livejournal.com profile] puck_nut, Dale, Heather, Jason, Mary, Jenny, Jeff, Jay, Fred, Ed, "Skushi and Company", for memories (and for those blank spots in the memories). I'll be there with bells on next year (maybe even literally!)

I'm trying to get used to wearing contact lenses again, so far today it went well.
