[livejournal.com profile] peachestavern gave me the idea for this new weekly feature, I'm going to discuss one CD/Artist in my collection. I'm going to call this feature "What the %#*$ is he listening to now?"

It worked out pretty good that the closest uncommon CD was within arms reach. The CD is known simply as "The Pizza Tapes", recorded by Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, and Tony Rice. If you are looking for a slickly produced recording, this isn't the CD for you. This CD is a recording of a once in a lifetime jam session featuring three of the greatest acoustic musicians who have ever lived. The review on the link says everything I was going to say, so I won't delve to far into that, so I'll just go into why I enjoy this CD so much.

I've always been a fan of the individual work of these artists, so I knew that I wouldn't be disappointed by this recording.

I really like how informal it is, the mistakes, banter, and cutting up really show the human side of these legends. There's one track that is just the three of them laughing and playing commercial jingles, and a TV theme or two.

I really enjoyed their choice of songs, mostly traditional bluegrass/gospel songs, plus "Knockin on Heaven's Door".

The picking on this is top notch, but then that is to be expected. I've had this CD for years and I'm still finding things on it that I wish I could play.

I recommend this CD for any fan of acoustic music, very relaxing.

That's it for the premiere edition of "What the &#@$ is he listening to now?" any feedback will be appreciated.
