What the # is he listening to now?
Nov. 14th, 2004 08:37 pm is "California Screamin'" by The Dixie Dregs.
I became a fan of Steve Morse, back in high school, before even hearing him play a single note. Back before guitar magazines became Limp Bizkit fan mags, they had Steve Morse writing a series of columns called "Open Ears". This column didn't deal with how to play faster than anyone else, but instead gave practical advice on developing your own style, technique, work ethic, and a multitude of other useful items to be applied to either guitar or life. The first CD I bought of his as a solo artist was "High Tension Wires", an incredible instrumental CD, "Highland Wedding" has to be one of the most incredible songs I've heard.
Oh yeah, not only is Steve Morse an incredible guitarist, but he's also qualified to be a commercial airline pilot.
Morse currently plays for Deep Purple, and the rest of the Dregs? They've all got day jobs as well.
Violinist Allen Sloan has this to occupy his time.
Bassist Andy West is a Software Engineer.
Keyboardist T. Lavitz is still recording
and drummer Rod Morgensten plays with various bands after the breakup of Winger(yes, he played for Winger)
Why do I like the Dregs? I like everything from Jazz to Bluegrass, and they very tastefully combine it all.
My Favorite tracks on this recording would have to be "Wages of Wierdness", and "The Bash". Like the reviewers on the Amazon site, I'd have to recommend their other live release "Bring 'em Back Alive", instead of this one, but they are both good.
