When we last left our hero...

The Sunday Recap a bit early!
Breakfast Thursday was at the Flyin' J truck stop, I ordered the "Big Three Combo", If anyone one reading this ever plans on eating anything else in the next 7 hours or so, don't order anything from a truck stop with the word "Big" in the name. Three Eggs, Three Slices of Bacon, Three links of sausage, three huge pancakes, and a serving of Grits. Honestly I didn't get hungry again until later in the afternoon.
It was a pretty uneventful drive up to Columbus, I stopped for coffee at Waverly, and proceeded northward. I stopped at the "Sundown Tire Disposal Services and Discount Porn Store", but alas the porn store portion of the business was closed. I'm not kidding, it's an actual business.
I hit town around 12 or so, drove around a bit until I found The Winemaker's Shop, I was really impressed with the store. I'll look for an excuse to visit Columbus just to stop by the store.
I checked in at the Red Roof Inn, unloaded my stuff, took a shower and headed out to find dinner. As I was leaving I noticed a rental truck parked and a roadie looking guy hanging out around the lobby. After dinner at Johnny Rocket's and a coffee I headed over to High Street to find a parking place near the Newport. I wandered the streets and got in line and waited for the doors to open. I stopped by the merchandise booth, bought a shirt, and took in front of where Steve Morse stands. I was in a state of amazement during the entire show.
here's the setlist...
Medley
The Introduction
Battle Lines
Highland Wedding
Mechanical Frenzy
Slice Of Time

Bloodsucking Leeches
Steve Morse cracked various jokes about driving around Columbus, and the fact that there was an outbreak of Laryngitis which prevented the singers they had lined up from showing up.
Oh yeah, I also got a pick!
All in all a good early Birthday present..
The next day I hung out around the hotel waiting on the rest of the entourage to show up, and kept an eye on the rental van (which I also saw parked around the corner from the Newport). As
sharkbait was checking in, bassist Dave Larue was getting a few cups of coffee. My hunch was right, the Dixie Dregs were at the RRI. If only I'd of known for sure, I'd of gladly made a Tim Horton's run for them.
After getting
sharkbait settled in (thanks for the B-day gifts!), we went to the J.C. Penney Outlet store, got a neverending bag of White Castle Burgers, and went to Meijer's to make our traditional odd beer purchase. Then it was back to the RRI to sample the beer and wait to join
chaptal for some food at Damon's Ribs (and a warm welcome to this mess goes out to
chaptal)
another beer was sampled while we waiting on
puck_nut and her mother to arrive, then it was off to the Value City Arena for the show. Tom Jones started shortly after 7:30 and didn't stop until the show ended at shortly after 9. He is still an incredible singer and a very energetic performer. and yes, the panties were flying towards the stage!
We opted to come back to KY this morning, I stopped by the vet and picked Rocky up, which made him happy.
All in all a good weekend, now time to take a nap, and recover!
